One problem craft breweries had before these boom years was not having enough software solutions scaled to meet their specific needs. That has since changed, with a ton of solutions large and small out there to make life a bit easier. The 5th Ingredient developed one of our favorites in Beer30, a cloud-based, B2B software that empowers breweries to track and analyze over 300 data points from grain-to-glass.

October 17, 2019 is the 2-year Anniversary for The 5th Ingredient! This year, we've gone from 4 breweries to 42 breweries, and are in 16 US States, Dominican Republic, and Australia. Read more below about Year 2 and what comes next!

Over 300 local startups applied to compete in San Diego’s most popular pitch competition, but only 10 finalists will end up on stage later this month. This week, the event’s organizers have announced the chosen few. The 10 finalists include a mix of life science and tech startups, including two companies recently profiled by the Union-Tribune: sports technology app Stact and brewery software The 5th Ingredient (full list below).

Tech Coast Angels picked 10 finalists for its John G. Watson Quick Pitch Competition. The annual event brings together promising San Diego startups to compete, with the top three winning a combined $75,000 in cash.

It is because of constructive feedback, questions, and introductions from you and other believers in our vision, that The 5th Ingredient has had a successful first year!

The four ingredients in beer are water, malt, hops, and yeast. The 5th Ingredient, as equally important as the other four, is data!

As founder and CEO of a startup, I love the necessity to wear numerous hats! I am no longer just working as an engineer and project manager who coordinates between numerous teams, as I am now required to actually execute and address the needs of all aspects of the business. This has forced me to develop new skills in the realm of branding and marketing, sales to potential clients, meetings and on-site visits with current clients, accounting practices, legal documents, and insurance paperwork, and finally - software development and brewery process engineering. My Google Calendar is certainly my best friend!
